Molecules and Membranes
This section consisting of chapters 2, 4, and 5 of the AICE Biology book covers the structures and roles of biological molecules and water and the structure and roles of cell membranes. The chemical structures of amino acids were memorized and the quiz required students to draw the chemical structure when given the name of the amino acid. I drew every amino acid required by the quiz correctly, demonstrating my knowledge on the subject. Other biological compounds such as carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins and their chemical structures were memorized and quizzed as well. A major part of this section was learning the function of these essential biological compounds in bodily cells and their specific role in the cell. This information was tested as well, and I demonstrated above adequate knowledge of the information. The importance of a cell's semi-permeable membrane and it's vitality to a cell's survival was heavily stressed in this chapter.
